In this video, we explore the controversial idea that atheism can be considered a type of religion. As an atheist myself, I’ve observed a significant amount of confusion and misconceptions about what atheism truly is, even among self-identifying atheists. From legal classifications to historical examples of non-theistic religions like Confucianism and the Cult of Reason, this video dives into the complex relationship between atheism and religion. Using examples from historical movements and modern philosophy, I argue that atheism is not merely a lack of belief in gods but can function as a belief system providing purpose, akin to traditional religions. We’ll also explore how political ideologies often fill the void left by mainstream religious communities, further blurring the line between religion and secular beliefs.
