Thunder Studios acquired Power Up TV at the start of the New Year and with it my services as an executive player in the YouTube and online video streaming market.

I have become the Vice President of Thunder TV, and its sister network Power Up TV, to develop and manage the department responsible for establishing a vertically integrated production studio.  This will include the renovations of 150,000 sqft studio facilities with a state-of-the-art production hub for content creators, $150,000 funding for each of several original content series, and business development programs for content creators seeking to make a career out of their talents.

Here is a video showcasing what Thunder Studios has to offer:

What a long, strange, yet exceptionally rewarding road it’s been.

Thunder Studios, formerly known as South Bay Studios, was originally built for General Motors car commercials with 20 stages, and is notable because:

  • It is pre-installed with Fisher Light Boxes (and has the world’s largest).
  • It has the largest green screen stage on the West Coast.
  • It has more cyclorama stages than any other studio in North America.

Thunder Studios CEO, Rodric David, came into the Entertainment Industry by way of family and his career in Equity Finance.  Rodric is the Rupert Murdoch to my Barry Diller.

Rodric came to know me through this blog and became genuinely interested in what I believe about the evolving online media landscape.  With this acquisition, I will now have all the assets and team necessary to launch large productions with global distribution backed by top brand partners.  We have a studio so large, the entire YouTube Space LA building could fit in our backlot; in fact, we’re opening our own version of a YouTube Space in the north end of the studio.

This year we will launch the “Production Playground”, where regular events & meetups enable content creators can rub elbows with the industry professionals currently rent our stages for TV and film productions.  This kind of access is ideal for those YouTubers seeking sustainable success as artists and independent producers.

I encourage those who view themselves as explorers of the new entertainment paradigm to visit the space and see how unlimited the opportunities are for talent and success.

Cheers!
Cheers!
